Ros-Lehtinen Comments on Anti-China Ruling at WTO;

Says long-overdue ruling will help fight piracy, benefit U.S. economy

  (WASHINGTON) - U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Ranking Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, commented today on a ruling by the World Trade Organization (WTO) against unfair Chinese practices restricting imports of books, songs, and movies.  Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

“This decision is long overdue as the Chinese regime fails to live up to its international obligations.

“The loss to American companies and citizens around the world from the pirating of intellectual property now exceeds $18 billion annually, with China being the principal violator.

“The music and film industries have been particularly hard-hit, resulting in further U.S. job losses at a time of economic distress.

“The U.S. government must take the necessary steps to hold China accountable for these illegal activities.”
