 Ros-Lehtinen Condemns Zelaya Stunt

Says Zelaya jeopardizes security, continues to undermine Honduran rule of law

(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Ranking Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, commented today on reports that Manuel Zelaya has returned to Honduras and is currently in the Brazilian Embassy in Tegucigalpa.  Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

“Manuel Zelaya has once again demonstrated a blatant disregard for the rule of law and the welfare of the Honduran people, this time by illegally entering into the country and creating a potentially volatile situation.

“The constitutional democratic government of Honduras must take the necessary steps to provide for the safety of its citizens and ensure that stability is not jeopardized by Zelaya’s menacing stunt.

“The U.S. and other democratic nations must stop aiding, abetting, and making excuses for Zelaya’s lawlessness.

“The Organization of American States, meeting in emergency session this afternoon, has an opportunity to right its past wrongs by holding Zelaya accountable for actions which threaten regional peace and security and undermine constitutional democracy.”
