Ros-Lehtinen Resolution on Radio Free Europe – Radio Liberty Expected

to Pass House Today;

Efforts for Freedom Recognized as 20th Anniversary of Fall of Berlin Wall Nears

  (WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Ranking Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, commented today on the expected passage by the House of a resolution she authored recognizing the 60th anniversary of the founding of Radio Free Europe-Radio Liberty.  Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

“Radio Free Europe-Radio Liberty has served for 60 years as a powerful voice for freedom in the ‘battle of ideas’ against communist tyranny.  As we approach the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall, we recognize that Radio Free Europe’s efforts to promote freedom and democracy played a key role in empowering the democratic opposition in nations freed from Soviet totalitarianism.

“Today, as our generation engages in another ‘battle of ideas’ against extremism and oppression, Radio Liberty continues to prove its worth.

“Radio Free Europe-Radio Liberty broadcasts in 28 different languages and reaches people in 20 nations.  I am proud to support this resolution in recognition of Radio Free Europe-Radio Liberty’s six decades of stellar service in the promotion of freedom.”
